The St. Bonaventure University women’s soccer team is scheduled for a pair of road games Sept. 3 and 5. The first game is slated at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 3 at Eastern Michigan. On Sunday, Sept. 5 the Bonnies are taking on Valparaiso at 1:00 p.m.
The Bonnies (2-1-1) are coming off two wins last week, one dominating win at home against Robert Morris and another win on the road at Merrimack. The Bonnies look to continue their success when they travel to Eastern Michigan and Valparaiso.
The Bonnies were highlighted last week by the first career goals for freshmen Chanel Alexander and sophomores Lydia Choban and McKenna Robinson. Also, the Bonnies were helped in large part to the performance by freshman goalkeeper and Co-Rookie of the week in the Atlantic 10, Chiara Gottinger. The Pirching am Traubenburg, Styria, Austria, native currently leads the Atlantic 10 in save percentage and ranks second in the Atlantic 10 in save per game. The Eagles (0-4) enter Friday’s contest coming off a 2-1 loss in their last game at Syracuse. Eastern Michigan’s lone goal of the season came from freshman midfielder Maddie O’Farrell in their last game at Syracuse. Senior goalkeeper Chelsea Abbotts, with 15 saves on the season, and sophomore goalkeeper Rebecca Przybylo, with 11 saves on the season, have each played two games for the Eagles this season.
Eastern Michigan University women’s soccer team has been tabbed to finish fifth in the Mid-American Conference, receiving 90 points in the preseason poll.
This is the first matchup between the Bonnies and Eagles on record.
The Beacons (1-2-1) enter Sunday’s contest coming off a 2-1 win at Robert Morris and are slated for a game on Friday, Sept. 3 against Northern Illinois. Sophomore Kelsie James, who is the team’s leading goal scorer with three goals on the season, was tabbed as Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week and Freshman Abby White, who scored her first collegiate goal to secure the win at Robert Morris, received Freshman of the Week honors for the MVC conference. Also, the Beacons are led in goal by sophomore Nikki Coryell, who has 23 saves on the season.
Valparaiso was picked to finish fourth in the Missouri Valley Conference Preseason Poll, racking up 51 points, including one first-place vote.
The Bonnies previous match up with Valparaiso was a 1-0 victory at home in 2019.
The Bonnies are slated to go back on the road on Thursday, Sept. 9 at Youngstown State, starting time is 5 p.m. This game will be streamed on ESPN+
