The Pioneers currently rank 13th in the country in Division I men's lacrosse coaches poll. Denver enters Saturday with an overall record of 1-1 following a 15-13 loss to Duke last Saturday. Junior midfielder Jack Hannah netted his first and the 21st sock trick in the program’s history, but a 7-0 run by Duke in the first half was too much to overcome for Denver. The Pioneers opened the season with a 13-7 win at Air Force.

A longtime lacrosse power, Denver is 100-20 since Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium was built in 2005 and 69-11 under head coach Bill Tierney at home.

Tierney is in his 11th season with the Pioneers, holding a 133-42 record at DU and a 405-135 career record in his 36th season. Tierney became the first coach to win National Championships with two different programs in 2015, and has an NCAA-best seven men’s lacrosse national titles to his name (six at Princeton).

Eighty-nine of Denver’s 181 goals last season came from the midfield. Jack Hannah led the midfield with 34 points on 16 goals and 18 assists. Ted Sullivan had 17 and 8 (25 points) and Alex Simmons had 16 points on 12 and 4.

Sixteen of Denver’s 26 goals in the first two games of the 2020 campaign have come from the Denver midfield. Hannah leads all Denver scorers with seven, Simmons has added three, Sullivan has two and Denver’s defensive midfield has combined for three.
